On the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, a ceremony was held at Chiwan Port (Shenzhen) to welcome the first shipment of Argentine wheat in almost 30 years.
This new milestone in bilateral trade relations also marks the first wheat purchase and sale conducted under free-market rules between companies from both countries.
The arrival of the ship "Shandong Fu Yi," carrying the cargo from the transaction handled by COFCO, represents a significant step in diversifying and expanding bilateral agro-industrial trade.
The last shipment of Argentine wheat to Chiwan Port was recorded in 1997 and amounted to 35,000 tons. The current shipment has doubled that volume.
In the coming weeks, the arrival of at least two additional ships is expected.
The event was attended by officials from the Argentine Embassy in the People’s Republic of China; representatives from COFCO China, COFCO International, and COFCO Argentina; as well as purchasing companies that will use the wheat imported from Argentina in their productive processes.
With a 7.4% share of the global market and an annual production of approximately 27.5 million tons, Argentina is the world’s 7th largest wheat exporter and 9th largest producer. Currently, Argentine wheat price per ton is among the most competitive internationally, reinforcing Argentina’s role as a reliable supplier of high-quality food at accessible prices for local consumers.
